“Richard died very peacefully in his home in Sweffling on March 3rd.
The whole family would like to say a grateful thank you to all those in the village who have supported us at this sad and difficult time, with kind words offers of help, attending Richard’s funeral, with cards and with flowers. The feeling of being part of a caring community has been invaluable.
Richard enjoyed 18 years of happy retirement at our home in Holden’s Meadow, which we bought new from Hopkins.
He was born in Woodbridge and had many local connections.
He maintained his dark looks—when young—due to his possible descent from a survivor of the Spanish armada washed ashore in Bawdsey!
Richard’s great grandfather was Harry Fairweather who lived in the cottage beside the stream in Fore Street Framlingham, and the car park there was his market garden… so we felt we were entitled to scrump all the apples there each autumn.”
